First stop on this unforgettable overnight excursion to Uxmal and Merida may be Izamal, a charming town famous for its massive 16th-century convent and other colonial buildings, all painted in a cheerful shade of bright yellow. Enjoy lunch or coffee in a local restaurant or visit the Cultural Center in the town square, which boasts exhibitions on the history of henequen cultivation in the Yucatán and Mexican handicrafts. You can also shop for crafts made in Izamal, including hammocks, embroidered dresses, colorful painted butterflies and jewelry made from the spines crowning the leaves of the henequen plant.

Then it’s time to head south to Uxmal. One of the Maya World's most beautiful ancient cities, Uxmal is famous for its stucco carvings, true masterpieces of Maya art. The Pyramid of the Magician dominates the skyline and other treasures are the Nuns' Quadrangle, Palace of the Governor, Great Pyramid and El Palomar. Staged every evening among the temples and palaces, the spectacular Light & Sound Show is the grand finale to your guided tour.

You'll either stay overnight in Uxmal in a beautiful hotel surrounded by the jungle or in Merida*. The following morning you’ll explore the city of Merida and discover its history and timeless traditions. The Merida City Tour includes stops for shopping and time to visit some of the principal attractions in the main square such as the Cathedral, Casa de Montejo, the home of Francisco de Montejo.
On your way back to Cancun, you'll stop for lunch in Piste, a village near Chichén Itzá.

* Your overnight stay may be in a hotel in Uxmal or in Merida subject to room availability in either destination.
